IPL 2018: Du Plessis, Dhoni have a ball in the nets

[ad_1]

Before the start of the season, Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming had specified that Faf du Plessis needs time to recover from the injuries he sustained throughout the summer, but “will be fit for the majority of the tournament.”

The South African batsman finally recovered his drug. Du Plessis — whose unbeaten 67 against Sunrisers Hyderabad took CSK to the final — hammered at least 11 sixes at the nets here at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, two days ahead of the final.

With skipper M. S. Dhoni at the adjacent net, he took on the bowlers with ease. Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma and a few net bowlers were at the receiving end.

Sixes galore

Later, batting coach Michael Hussey decided to have a throw-down session to challenge Du Plessis. But he couldn’t stop the right-hander either. Three more sixes kissed the empty stands with a bang. Dhoni also cleared the boundary at least eight times in the first-half of the session.

Fast bowler David Willey, whose last appearance was almost two weeks ago, bowled a few overs, too. Sam Billings, who was injured in the last game, swung his bat as well. He looked a bit rusty against the spinners, but seemed fit enough to be available for the final on Sunday.

Day off for Vijay

M. Vijay, who is unlikely to make it to the playing XI having appeared in only one game this season, took a day off. He was spotted at the hotel swimming pool with his kids.
