You don’t see a net bowler being employed by a participating team too often, but that’s how Prasidh Krishna came to the forefront in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
The 22-year-old Karnataka pacer — who was called to bowl at the Kolkata Knight Riders nets — was absorbed by the franchise in place of Kamlesh Nagarkoti, who got injured.
After warming the bench for almost four weeks, Krishna let his ball do the talking. The right-arm speedster claimed 10 wickets in six games. He also bowled a tight last over against Rajasthan Royals — to seal a place in Qualifier 2 — at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Chasing 170 for a win, the Royals batsmen needed 43 off 18 balls. Krishna kept the Royals batsmen quiet and conceded only 11 runs off his last two overs (1/28 overall in the game, which included the wicket of Stuart Binny). He kept throwing length balls and slowers outside off to choke the boundaries, which worked in KKR’s favour.
He also claimed his career-best (4/30) in the last league game, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, to help KKR qualify for the play-offs. He dismissed Shikhar Dhawan, Manish Pandey, Shakib Al Hasan and Rashid Khan. Before turning out in the IPL, Krishna picked 17 wickets for Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
