Shooting World Cup: Indians fail to shine

Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar shot a score of 836.8 between them and missed making the mixed air rifle final by 1.4 point in the shooting World Cup in Munich on Monday.

In a highly competitive field of 75 teams, Apurvi (416.4) and Ravi (420.4) staged sharp performances but were overtaken by better performers on the day. The other Indian team of Mehuli Ghosh (419.2) and Deepak Kumar (415.8) reached a total of 835.0 and placed 20th. The Russians, Anastasia Galashina and Sergey Kamenskiy beat two Chinese teams for the gold.

In the mixed air pistol competition, the Indian shooters could not work up any magic. Heena Sidhu (384) and Om Prakash Mitharval shot 767 between them and placed 13th, missing the top-5 for the final, by five points. Manu Bhaker shot 384 but Shahzhar Rizvi could muster only 374, as the second Indian team placed 34th with a total of 758, among the 68 teams.

Ukraine won the gold through Olena Kostevych and Oleh Omelchuk who shot a world record 778 in qualification, but pipped Serbia by 0.2 point in the final.
